Does EagleLINKS require Cookies?

From the vendor's documentation:

Yes. [The application] requires session level cookies that live in the browser memory only. This cookie is
encrypted and check-summed to prevent tampering. When the user closes [his/her] session, the cookie disappears. No cookies are saved to the user's hard disk. The typical concern about cookies is that some public websites use cookies to track users' surfing habits to collect data to sell to advertisers. This does not apply to [our Self Service] applications because of the following:

* No data is being sent to Coppin (it is only used to maintain the user's session context).

* No user data gets stored at the browser level.

* The application server needs to keep track of what the user is doing for transactional purposes. This absolutely needs to be done. Coppin's Self Service is not web surfing.
It is a web application. Applications require context. Every web "application" needs to do similar things.

* It is fairly straightforward to allow cookies for certain websites and not others as part of the browser configuration. Both Microsoft and Netscape have a lot of information on their websites about this.

I use AOL and cannot log in. What should I do?

If you are using an older version of AOL as your ISP, minimize the AOL Window and start from Internet Explorer (IE) or Netscape directly from your desktop. Better still, upgrade your AOL to a recent version.

What is required to log on?

You will need a User ID and a Password. New students, your User ID and password were mailed to you. Your User ID is your unique identifier and will give you access to the EagleLINKS system.

Once you log on to the system for the first time, you must change your password. You should also complete the "Change or set up forgotten password help" process to give you a clue to help remember the password later if you forget it.)

Can I use my Social Security Number?

No. EagleLINKS does not require your Social Security Number unless you are applying for financial aid, or you are a student worker.

How do I obtain help if I have a question or do not understand the system?

Once you become familiar with the EagleLINKS site, you will find it easier to navigate. If you are not able to enroll in a class, you should first determine your eligibility to enroll. First review your record to ensure that you have no "holds" on your record. If there are no "holds" to prevent registration, please contact your assigned advisor or the chairperson of your major to determine if you have been approved to register. The same rules that would prevent you from enrolling in person will prevent you from enrolling online. If you are not able to find what you are looking for, or complete a transaction, you may need to visit in person or call the Records and Registrations office.

Will the same registration access be available on the web as in-person?

Yes. You will have access to the entire class schedule and be eligible to enroll in the same courses online as you would in-person. We encourage you to register on-line to avoid waiting in lines. Remember that the same registration rules (e.g., satisfying prerequisites, able to enroll only in open class sections) apply whether using EagleLINKS or not. All new students, currently enrolled students with Developmental English needs, and students on academic alert or probation should meet with an advisor before registering for classes.

Is the information I enter in EagleLINKS updated in real time?

Yes. You will be able to see changes made online immediately, including enrollment updates and personal information.

Do I need to change my user preferences once I log into the system?

No. For now, we will set your current defaults, but each semester you will want to update term, career (undergraduate or graduate), and financial aid year (regardless of whether or not you are receiving aid). You may wish to change your current defaults if, for example, you are more likely to be looking for graduate courses but your current defaults are set to undergraduate career. You can change your defaults as often as you like. Regardless of your default settings, you can view information in both careers (UGRD and GRAD).

How can I avoid the long lines for registration?

We encourage students to register on-line. If you are having problems registering on-line, please review the registration-related questions and responses in EagleLINKS before you contact the Office of Records and Registration for help.

What is EagleLINKS? What services are available online?

EagleLINKS is Coppin's new web based system that will enable students and faculty to perform a variety of student service functions including the following.

  • Change personal information like your mailing & e-mail addresses, phone number
  • Register for or drop courses
  • View your schedule of classes and the college catalogue
These are the same functions currently done in person at Coppin. We anticipate that EagleLINKS will offer students a time-saving and convenient way to accomplish most standard administrative functions. You will be able to perform these actions from any computer with Internet access and a browser (preferred browsers are Netscape and Internet Explorer versions 4.x and above).
