Frequently Asked Questions
SELF SERVICE (for any purpose, registering, viewing personal information, etc) User ID and password are created using the following rules. Your User ID is the first initial of your first name followed by your last name and then a two-digit code. For new students, your User ID and initial password were included in the registration notice that was mailed to you. WHERE IS MY STUDENT ID? Starting Fall 2004, Social Security Number is no longer used as a Student ID. EagleLINKS creates a seven (7) digit ID that is assigned to you. This ID number was included in the registration notice that was mailed to you. Return to Top Will EagleLINKS be available to all students? All Coppin students who were enrolled during the previous academic semesters (Fall or Spring), will be able to use the full range of services offered via EagleLINKS. All new students, currently enrolled students, students with developmental English requirements and students on Academic Alert or Probation may use the service but should meet with an advisor prior to registering for classes. Return to Top When will EagleLINKS be available? This service is currently available to all students that were enrolled for the Spring 2004 semester. Return to Top Are there computer terminals on campus for using EagleLINKS? We have computers in the Library, computer labs in the Grace Jacobs Classroom Building and the lobby of the Miles Connor Administration Building that can be used to access EagleLINKS. You can use any computer, at home or on campus, with an Internet connection. Return to Top What client operating systems and web browsers are supported?
Return to Top Does EagleLINKS require Cookies? From the vendor's documentation: Yes. [The application] requires session level cookies that live in the browser memory only. This cookie is encrypted and check-summed to prevent tampering. When the user closes [his/her] session, the cookie disappears. No cookies are saved to the user's hard disk. The typical concern about cookies is that some public websites use cookies to track users' surfing habits to collect data to sell to advertisers. This does not apply to [our Self Service] applications because of the following: * No data is being sent to Coppin (it is only used to maintain the user's session context). * No user data gets stored at the browser level. * The application server needs to keep track of what the user is doing for transactional purposes. This absolutely needs to be done. Coppin's Self Service is not web surfing. It is a web application. Applications require context. Every web "application" needs to do similar things. * It is fairly straightforward to allow cookies for certain websites and not others as part of the browser configuration. Both Microsoft and Netscape have a lot of information on their websites about this. Return to Top I use AOL and cannot log in. What should I do? If you are using an older version of AOL as your ISP, minimize the AOL Window and start from Internet Explorer (IE) or Netscape directly from your desktop. Better still, upgrade your AOL to a recent version. Return to Top What is required to log on? You will need a User ID and a Password. New students, your User ID and password were mailed to you. Your User ID is your unique identifier and will give you access to the EagleLINKS system. Once you log on to the system for the first time, you must change your password. You should also complete the "Change or set up forgotten password help" process to give you a clue to help remember the password later if you forget it.) Return to Top Can I use my Social Security Number? No. EagleLINKS does not require your Social Security Number unless you are applying for financial aid, or you are a student worker. Return to Top How do I obtain help if I have a question or do not understand the system? Once you become familiar with the EagleLINKS site, you will find it easier to navigate. If you are not able to enroll in a class, you should first determine your eligibility to enroll. First review your record to ensure that you have no "holds" on your record. If there are no "holds" to prevent registration, please contact your assigned advisor or the chairperson of your major to determine if you have been approved to register. The same rules that would prevent you from enrolling in person will prevent you from enrolling online. If you are not able to find what you are looking for, or complete a transaction, you may need to visit in person or call the Records and Registrations office. Return to Top Will the same registration access be available on the web as in-person? Yes. You will have access to the entire class schedule and be eligible to enroll in the same courses online as you would in-person. We encourage you to register on-line to avoid waiting in lines. Remember that the same registration rules (e.g., satisfying prerequisites, able to enroll only in open class sections) apply whether using EagleLINKS or not. All new students, currently enrolled students with Developmental English needs, and students on academic alert or probation should meet with an advisor before registering for classes. Return to Top Is the information I enter in EagleLINKS updated in real time? Yes. You will be able to see changes made online immediately, including enrollment updates and personal information. Return to Top Do I need to change my user preferences once I log into the system? No. For now, we will set your current defaults, but each semester you will want to update term, career (undergraduate or graduate), and financial aid year (regardless of whether or not you are receiving aid). You may wish to change your current defaults if, for example, you are more likely to be looking for graduate courses but your current defaults are set to undergraduate career. You can change your defaults as often as you like. Regardless of your default settings, you can view information in both careers (UGRD and GRAD). Return to Top How can I avoid the long lines for registration? We encourage students to register on-line. If you are having problems registering on-line, please review the registration-related questions and responses in EagleLINKS before you contact the Office of Records and Registration for help. Return to Top When do I register for classes? All students are assigned an enrollment appointment to register for courses and the enrollment appointments are assigned based on students’ classifications. Enrollment Appointments are the period of times when students can register for courses. Graduate students, juniors, and seniors are assigned enrollment appointment for the first two days of registration through the end of registration. Freshman and sophomore students are assigned enrollment appointments for the third day of registration through the end of registration which is just before the start of the semester. Return to Top The system is not allowing me to add any classes. What do I do? If you go to the enrollment section and you receive a message stating "You are not able to register into classes this term", you may have a "hold" on your record. You must go to the appropriate office to determine the nature of the "hold".
Return to Top Why can't I see my appointment to register for next semester? To see your appointment for registration for the next semester, you must first see your advisor. Return to Top How will I register for classes? Each student has been assigned a User-ID and a password to register on-line. For new students, User-IDs and passwords have been mailed. You will register for classes with EagleLINKS, CSU's online self-service website. You will have sole access to your EagleLINKS account. Your account will be protected with a password. You must see your advisor and then register for classes. Return to Top If I am a graduate student, is the registration process any different? No, if you are a currently enrolled degree seeking graduate student. You will adhere to the general registration procedures and EagleLINKS will be available for you to register. For graduate students who have not registered for courses during the past academic year (fall and spring) you must report to the Office of Admissions to complete an application for readmission to the University. Contact the Office of Admissions for details. Return to Top What if all sections of a course are full and I need it to graduate? You will have to obtain an Add slip from the Registrar’s Office. Then you MUST see the instructor for permission to override and return the signed Add slip to the Registrar’s Office. You will not be able to register for closed sections online. Return to Top How can I get into a class if it requires permission from instructor? You will need to see the individual instructor assigned to the course or chair of the department. The department offering the class will provide you with an override form to enter the course. You must submit the override form to the Office of Records and Registration for processing. Return to Top How will I know when I have completed the registration process? The registration process on EagleLINKS is "real time". You will know immediately if your registration/requests have been processed. There will be a link called view my class schedule that will show your confirmed schedule as of that moment. You can print your schedule using the tool bar on your browser. Make sure you check your schedule before exiting the registration process. Return to Top What if I change my mind later and want to adjust my schedule? The EagleLINKS will be available to you from your initial registration appointment time. EagleLINKS will also be accessible to you for last minute changes during the add-drop period. Return to Top Will a Hold stop me from registering for classes in EagleLINKS? Yes. Holds will still prevent registration. You will have to visit the appropriate office to have them removed. Ex.: Cashier's Office Hold (unpaid parking tickets, library fines and unpaid semester balances). Return to Top How can I see a Hold on my record? To see your holds, sign in to EagleLinks using your User-ID number and password. Click on SA Self Service, click on Personal Portfolio, click on Tasks, then click on Holds. Your hold will be displayed. Please note the department that has placed the hold under DEPARTMENT. You will have to call or visit the appropriate office to have them removed. Ex.: Student Financial Holds (unpaid semester balances and returned checks). Return to Top How will I know if a course has a prerequisite? If you select a course that has a prerequisite, the system will not allow you to register for the course unless you meet the prerequisite. You must register for the prerequisite before attempting the next course. (Example: ENGL101 is the prerequisite for ENGL102) Note: A prerequisite maybe a course, an exam, etc., that you must take before taking another courses. Return to Top What happens if I registered for a course that had a prerequisite the previous semester and I failed the prerequisite course? You must retake the prerequisite course that you failed. You may not go on to the next course. Example: If you registered for ENGL101 the Spring 2004 semester and failed it you may not take ENGL102 the Fall 2004 semester. If you early registered for the Fall 2004 semester for ENGL 102 you must drop ENGL 102 and retake ENGL 101. Return to Top Where will my refund check be sent? The BILLING ADDRESS will be used to mail all bills, statement of accounts, refunds and other financial information from Student Accounts. If there is no BILLING ADDRESS all of the above items will be mailed to the MAILING ADDRESS. If there is no MAILING ADDRESS everything will be mailed to the HOME ADDRESS.
